NC Miata wheel and tire fitment calculator
A 17x9 +45 with a 245/40R17 fits an NC Miata once the fenders are rolled and the car runs −2° of camber. Set your car below, its ride height, dampers and alignment, and the calculator puts the tire where it ends up at full bump in a corner, front and rear, and grades the fender work each end needs.
Change the wheel, the tire or the car, and the drawing moves with it.
Every grade is an estimate. Every car differs, tire brands run wide or narrow, and a big brake kit can need a spacer whatever the fender says. Test-fit before you buy.
Your car
Set it up the way yours sits.
The bump stop is fixed to the body, so the wheel stops in the same place in the arch however low the car sits.

At 0.0 g it clears the rolled lip and the shock tower through all 46 mm of travel.
Full bump with 1.0 g of cornering is the moment the grade is for.
One corner in section through the axle, front or rear. The dashed outline is the stock 205/45R17 on the same hub. The body holds still and the wheel rises into it. The suspension is drawn to show its layout, not to scale.

Each number is mm further out than the stock tire’s outer sidewall. The shade is the fender work on the car set above. An asterisk marks a tire stretched or bulged on this width; tires that do not mount on it are left out.
NC Miata fitment questions
What offset fits an NC Miata without rolling the fenders?
On a 17x8, +45 to +48 takes a 225/45R17 under stock fenders, and +48 takes a 235/40R17. On a 17x9, +48 takes a 235/40R17.
Will a 17x9 +45 with a 245/40R17 fit an NC Miata?
Yes, with the fenders rolled front and rear and at least −2° of camber.
Can an NC Miata run a 17x10?
Yes, with fender work every time. A 17x10 +48 with a 255/40R17 needs a roll and at least −3°. A 17x10 +43 needs a roll to a flat roll and pull depending on the tire, and can rub the rear shock towers. A 17x10 +38 with a 255/40R17 needs flares.
What is the NC Miata bolt pattern and hub bore?
5x114.3 with a 67.1 mm hub bore and M12x1.5 studs, on every 2006–2015 MX-5. The factory wheels are 16x6.5 +55 and 17x7 +55.
Does lowering an NC make the tires rub?
Not by itself, on stock-length dampers. The bump stop is fixed to the body, so the wheel stops in the same place in the arch however low the car sits, and Mazda’s alignment for the lower height leaves it at the same camber there. Lowering takes away the gap at rest and the travel, so the tire gets to that place more often. On coilovers the travel is set by the coilover, and a lower car on the same travel puts the tire higher in the arch.
Does camber change what fits on an NC?
Yes. Each degree of negative camber moves the top of the tire about 5.4 mm in, away from the fender lip and toward the rear shock tower, and the suspension adds more as it compresses. That is why published 17x10 setups run −2.5° to −3°, and why a reported tower rub was fixed with less rear camber.
Which end of an NC Miata is tighter?
The rear. Owners report the rear lip rubbing before the front, and the one inside rub reported on a 17x10 was at the rear shock tower. At the front, the published limit is the plastic liner at full lock.
